For the last few months, I have been wondering what was up with my health. "Heart surges" or a racing heart combined with constantly swollen glands, difficult swallowing, puffy eyes, changes in vision, hair loss & increased anxiety are all things that I've experienced. It makes me sound like a super hot catch...I know. It's been a little rough when combined with all of the stress of school applications and stuff.
I had a bunch of blood work done in November. When I finally visited my endocrinologist on Friday she told me that my thyroid growth increased in size and is what causes all of those scary events. I have hyperthyroidism. Woohoo!
For those who don't know what that is, it's the thyroid issue that makes you skinny. (Ha! Joke's on you thyroid...it ain't workin'!) Hyperthyroidism means that your body overproduces thyroid hormone and accelerates the metabolism. I have to admit that if it weren't for the gnarly side effects, I would be super happy.
I have to do a bunch of blood work tomorrow and some sort of radioactive screener for a follow up. Fun times! I'll keep you posted.

i'm so glad they came back with a diagnosis! i've actually known a few people (e.g. family, friends) with thyroid things going on (low or hyperactive, i'm not sure) who have found medication very effective in regulating thyroid activity and eliminating negative symptoms. here's hoping you'll have similar success :-)
