HELP! One of my top five fave shows is in danger of the big C--cancellation.
Chuck, an espionage-oriented action/comedy show is genuinely entertaining. Part of me has to admit that I like the show because I would marry Zach Levi (Chuck) in a heartbeat if was actually like his character. The other part of me should admit that I have always fantasized that somehow someone high up would realize that I was a national security asset, recruit me to work for the CIA or FBI and train me until I was like Sydney Bristow or Jack Bauer. In reality, there are a few drawbacks to that lifestyle, which Chuck portrays really well.
Back to the show. Not only is Chuck great b/c it taps into my personal nerdiness/fantasies but it is hilarious with side characters like Jeff and Lester and-last but not least-Morgan. It has moral lessons and an emotional backstory with Chuck's sister Ellie and her husband Capt. Awesome. Overall, it's just a fun show.
Lately, there have been rumors that it won't be renewed for a third season (a la Pushing Daisies or Arrested Development), which prompted Zach Levi (Chuck) and Adam West (Col. Casey) to take to a Subway Sandwich in the UK with a trail of around 600 supporters. They made a grassroots campaign to save the show by asking the nerds in attendance to go to the internet and get people involved. So, with each Subway purchased, participants are asked to fill out comment cards or call Subway headquarters at 1- 800-888-4848 then press 85 to let them know that you bought a sandwich to save the NBC series.
If you don't like Subway, please take a quick min to write a letter to save a great show and keep my future husband employed. LOL! (Remember...I don't ask for much.)
Chuck Campaign: Write a Letter
In addition to providing ratings numbers, we can make a huge impact with a handwritten (or typed but handsigned) letter expressing our desire for a third season of Chuck. One personal letter mailed to the network is worth hundreds, even thousands of signatures on an online petition or emails to the network. If a fan takes the time to write a letter and send it snail mail, that speaks loudly. If hundreds and thousands of fans write letters and send them in snail mail, that speaks at a volume that cannot be ignored. So please, take a few minutes to put pen to paper and write to NBC about your wish for a third season of Chuck.
Guidelines:
- DO be respectful.
- DON’T be threatening. “I’ll never watch NBC again!” doesn’t have any impact.
- DO mention your age, gender and general geographic location. We want to show what a broad fanbase this show has.
- DO tell them whether or not you’re a Nielsen viewer. If you’re not a Nielsen viewer, remind them that your viewership still deserves to be counted.
- DO tell them if you watch/buy Chuck on other platforms (iTunes, Hulu.com, PS3, etc.)
- DO tell them why you want Chuck to stay on the air.
- DON’T complain about a storyline that you aren’t fond of. Keep comments about the show positive.
- DO handwrite your letter if possible. If not, at least sign it by hand.
- DON’T send in a template/form letter. It’s okay to model your letter on someone else’s (we recommend Rachel’s), but make it your own.
- DO send in a box of Nerds candy with your letter, as per Josh Schwartz’s suggestion.
- DO write today!
