Stares and Such

I ride my bike to work and always tend to get odd looks for wearing a helmet. I watch other bikers and probably only 10% of them wear helmets, which makes me wonder, "Why don't they want to protect their noggin'?" To look cool?

Those questions didn't really sink in until I finished some fin aid applications and had a convo with a coworker about school financing. Then I wondered why people have an aversion to helmets.

First off, after seeing Christiane post the bus incident I wouldn't go without one. No thank you. Second, I invest a lot of my time, money and energy into my education. Isn't it natural to want to protect that? If it came down to a $15 dollar helmet and looking mildly dorky or being brain dead and losing out on $140K+ in education I think I'd take the helmet.
