That's right, folks...It's Super Tuesday time. What's super about this day isn't that it's not Monday. It's not that someone is giving out free ice cream sandwiches (yum!) and stickers or free trips to Cancun. Today is super because we get to pick who we want to be the lead contenders for our next Presidential race.
To me this is an opportunity to show 'em what I'm made of and make my voice count. Some of my college buddies were majorly pumped up to participate in the 2004 Presidential Election with ads from MoveOn.org and MTV's "Get Out the Vote" only to be told after the popular votes were counted that they didn't matter and that youth of America doesn't count. On the contrary, there were record numbers of youth engaging in politics and record numbers who voted. But, because overall increase in the voting population the numbers only seemed proportional to the usual 20% or so youth votes. This time we can do better. Much better.
This time, I am determined to get off to set our country up for success and provide a strong, electable Presidential nominee in the Primary by turning out to vote today. Today voters are doing something more important than voting in the 2008 National Election. Think about it. We are setting the stage for the future today and by eliminating choices or positioning one candidate above the others. Each vote matters to potentially make history or alter it's path forever, regardless of whether one votes Rep or Dem. Make your vote count!
